Axis EDM Small Hole Drilling overview

EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) small hole drilling is a specialized machining process used to create precise and small-diameter holes in various materials, including metals and hard alloys. This technique is particularly useful for applications requiring high accuracy and intricate designs.

Trinity EDM can provide small hole EDM drilling as part of our customers design or as pilot holes for our wire EDM process.  We can also utilize this process to remove broken taps from your previously machined parts.  Small hole EDM is a process in which electricity travels through a metallic electrode as small as .005" eroding away material as deionized water flushes away burned particles.  Like wire EDM, with small hole EDM drilling, no physical contact occurs between the electrode and the work piece.  The result is a very fine finish with extreme accuracy that requires no additional work for a smooth, straight, surface that is virtually burr free.  

  • Extremely deep, very small diameter holes  (.005”/.188” possible- We have completed .125” X 44” Through holes in 718 Inconel with better that .002” per ft straightness)
  • Blind holes  (.005”/.188” possible- We have completed .125”-.156” X 39” deep blind holes in 718 Inconel with better that .002” per ft straightness)
  • Pilot holes for wire EDM  
  • Broken taps
